THE BANANA VENDOR DEVOTEE
ABOUT THIS SITE
Kolavecha Sridhar was a simple banana vendor and devotee of Lord Vishnu who lived in Navadvipa during the time of Lord Chaitanya. Despite his humble means, Sridhar's devotion was so pure and unalloyed that Lord Chaitanya personally visited him regularly to purchase banana flowers — and secretly delighted in playfully bargaining with him.
Lord Chaitanya later revealed that He had been testing Sridhar's consciousness through these interactions, and declared that Sridhar's detachment from material things and simple-hearted devotion made him very dear to Him.
The site of Sridhar's home and banana grove has been preserved as a sacred reminder that devotion is measured not by wealth, education, or external position, but by the purity and simplicity of one's love for God.
