HILL OF DIVINE PROTECTION

Govardhan Hill (Caitanya Math)

ABOUT THIS SITE

The Caitanya Math complex includes a sacred replica of Govardhan Hill — the hill that Lord Krishna lifted on His finger for seven days to protect the residents of Vrindavana from the wrath of Indra's torrential rains. This pastime stands as one of the most dramatic demonstrations of the Lord's personal love for His devotees.

The presence of a Govardhan shila (stone from the actual hill) makes this replica particularly sacred. Pilgrims circumambulate the hill in the same spirit as they would the original Govardhan in Vrindavana, receiving the same spiritual merit.

Caitanya Math itself is the institution founded by Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura — the guru of Srila Prabhupada — and carries deep historical significance for the entire lineage of Gaudiya Vaishnavism in the modern era.
