ANCIENT LORD OF THE DHAMA
ABOUT THIS SITE
Dhameswar Mahaprabhu is one of the oldest and most mysterious deities in the Navadvipa dhama. This ancient deity of Lord Vishnu is said to have been present in the dhama since time immemorial, presiding over the sacred land as its eternal guardian.
The temple has a deeply ancient atmosphere — unlike the more recently constructed ISKCON temples, the Dhameswar temple retains the character of a traditional Bengali Vaishnava shrine that has witnessed centuries of devotional service.
Local Vaishnava tradition holds that the deity here has special potency for pilgrims undertaking the full Navadvipa Parikrama, serving as one of the key stops in the traditional circumambulation of the dhama.
