Bhaktivinoda Thakur's House

ABOUT THIS SITE

The house of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura stands as one of the most historically significant sites in Mayapur. Bhaktivinoda Thakura was the great 19th-century Vaishnava acharya who rediscovered the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and prophetically declared that one day devotees from all over the world would come to chant the holy names in Mayapur.

A prolific author, philosopher, and magistrate, Bhaktivinoda Thakura wrote hundreds of devotional songs and philosophical works that revitalized Vaishnavism and laid the intellectual foundation for the worldwide spread of Krishna consciousness in the 20th century.

His son, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, would go on to be the guru of Srila Prabhupada — making Bhaktivinoda Thakura the spiritual great-grandfather of the entire ISKCON movement.
